Currency note: why we cite £ not $
Stripe Identity's pricing page is geolocated. The version we verified on 2026-06-17 from a UK IP shows £1.25 per verification. Stripe's standard USD billing for US customers historically prices Identity at $1.50 per verification on stripe.com/identity (US), but the figure we cite is the GBP one because that is what we verified directly. The $1.57 approximation is a GBP/USD conversion at June 2026 spot rate ~1.26, not a Stripe-published rate, and we have flagged it as a medium-risk source on /sources.
How Stripe Identity bills
- Pay-as-you-go. No tiers, no monthly minimum, no annual commit. You pay £1.25 per completed verification, billed alongside your Stripe account.
- 50 verifications free. One-time allocation, not monthly. Sufficient for evaluation or very small pilots.
- ID number lookup is separate. Currently US SSN only at 35p per lookup. Not bundled with document verification.
- Volume pricing over 2,000/month. Stripe offers custom rates on request; not published.
What Stripe Identity does well
- Frictionless integration if you already use Stripe. Identity verification ties into the existing Customer object. One vendor, one contract, one dashboard, one settlement.
- No monthly minimum. Best published deal at very low volumes. Pay only for what you use beyond the free 50.
- Liveness included. Selfie biometric is standard, not an add-on.
Where Stripe Identity falls short
- No AML or PEP/sanctions screening. Regulated workloads (fintech, crypto, gaming) need a second vendor. This is the headline constraint: if you need full KYC + AML in one vendor, Sumsub Compliance, Veriff + PEP add-on, or Shufti Pro Essentials all bundle it.
- No KYB (Know Your Business). Stripe Identity is individual-only. KYB for marketplace seller onboarding or B2B onboarding needs Trulioo, Sumsub Business or Onfido Business KYB.
- No published USD rate. If you procure in USD, your finance team will FX-convert the GBP figure; the rate they apply may differ from ours.
